4.5 day itinerary ideas for Vava'u, Tonga

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hello everyone,
It looks like I'll have to make last minute changes to my travel plans, since I haven't been able to get in contact with those on Ha'apai after the cyclone. So unless I hear back soon regarding Ha'apai or a possible volunteering aid opportunity there, I am thinking to go to Vava'u instead.

It seems that there are many little islands in the Vava'u group, and I don't know where to begin! Does anyone have any recommendations on things to see/do there? I will be arriving on a Saturday afternoon and leaving on Thursday morning. I would like to go to Church on Sunday. Apart from that, my main interests would be snorkeling, kayaking (perhaps to another nearby deserted? island), and just general relaxing/experiencing culture. In terms of accomodation, I'm probably leaning more towards a budget/ locally-owned place as opposed to an expensive foreign owned resort.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

While on the main island, in Neiafu, we stayed at the Port Wine Guesthouse last October. Convenient location nice accom. and good hosts. They can also give you advice on where to go etc. It's locally owned and operated.

While certain islands may seem 'deserted' they are all private property and require permission to visit.

You'll be fine of you want to just paddle over/go for a short walk on a beach but be sure to ask locals first.
