8-10 day vacation in or near Fiji, would love to hear thoughts!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi all !

My wife and I live in California and we are planning our honeymoon trip. We would love to hear your thoughts on vacationining in Fiji or surrounding islands.

We're budgeting around 8-10 days. Here is what we would prefer:

  • It would be nice to avoid crowded tourist beaches, something a bit more mellow would be preferable
  • It would be nice if there were nearby island we could explore. Potentially we would spend 4 days on the first island, and take a ferry to another island for another 4 days
  • Great scuba or snorkeling spots would be a bonus

We would be looking for a combination of some relaxation, some exploring, and native culture. 8 days on the same beach would likely be too montonous for us.

We would be going in November, tail end of the hurricane season, will this pose a hurricane threat at all? I know there is no guarantees, but would like to know if this is something I should be worried about.

We really would appreciate any and all suggestions! We've never been and would love to hear your thoughts if you have traveled in the area. Thank you very much!

Mamanucas/Yasawas are easy enough to get to from Nadi and there are a range of island options. Maybe three days on one island, three on another, and then a couple of days exploring culture on the mainland?

Thank you so much @adore1979 !

Do you have any particular favorites of the Mamanuca or Yasawas islands?

If we would like to explore the Yasawas area, is our only option to fly into Fiji and take a ferry? Do you know how long the Ferry would be? Or any you would recommend?

Thank you!

have you thought about a local cruise, small boat, both companies are good, that way you see lots of different islands, snorkel in different places twice a day, visit local village culture and have a nice time, then you can have the remainder of the days on the main island, if your budget is OK, the Intercontinental at Natadola has the best beach in Fiji

Nanuya LiLi in the Yasawas or a local cruise.

Cheers,

Hi vtrun,

The Yasawa islands in Fiji are incredible. When I visited in August the weather was perfect,so I'm not sure what November would be like. From what I understand it looks to be typical tropical rain (rains heavy but clears quickly).
The Yasawa islands are easy to get to and offer secluded islands that often only have one resort per island. You can easily visit two islands in your time by taking advantage of the Yasawa Flyer ferry (http://www.awesomefiji.com/ferrytimetable.aspx). Alternatively, if you feel like splurging a little, I've heard the seaplanes offer amazing scenery and drop you straight to your hotel choice.

I would definitely recommend staying at Manta Ray Island Resort. The snorkeling here is fantastic and very easy to access. The staff are very friendly, have nightly games, great cocktails, offer massages and daily tours (like kayaking).
You could also try Barefoot Island Resort for a relaxing stay.
If you want to head up to the North of the island chain the snorkeling tends to be a bit more boring in comparison. But the Blue Lagoon is pretty cool. Accommodation tends to be more expensive up here.

I hope this helps!
