8 day pacific island trip -where to go??

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi, i'm looking to take 8-10 days off over xmas and head off the beaten track, but not sure where to start looking! There would be 2-3 of us, on a budget.
I've not been to any of the pacific islands and am interested in somewhere like PNG, east timor, vanuatu etc. looking for somewhere that offers culture, hiking and maybe a beach for a day...
any suggestions or tips very welcomed!

Welcome to American Samoa. Clean, safe rooms with shared bath 30 US a night. Great food (Samoan, chinese, American) 3 bucks a plate. Hiking on safe United States National Park trails free. Pristine reefs with great diversity, safe and free.

Welcome to American Samoa

If you want culture, plenty of scope for hiking, etc, try Solomon Islands. The only drawback (which applies to anywhere in the South Pacific over Christmas), is overbooked local transport, so if you want to go anywhere off Guadalcanal, you will probably have to fly, and book your flights in advance.
If you stay in local rest houses, you can get an ensuite room in Honiara for $US30, but again, you need to book early.

I spent a month in the Solomons (June) and thought it was amazing. I did some diving, snorkling, and trekking and they are all world class. Check out Fatboys and Uepi Island Resort.
