A night in Apia

Hello,

I'll be getting to Apia, Samoa on Feb 2 at 1:00 am..
Since this is a late hour, I guess all the fales won't be available (I understand they're not actually located in Apia either).
I'm looking for a cheap basic accommodation as I'm only waiting for the boat to Tokelau (the next day I can book a fale I guess).

Is there any solution to this since the cheapest hotel is 100$ a night and I'm not sure it's OK to sleep at the airport..

Take a look at hostelworld. You'll probably find some (much) cheaper accomodation.

No, the cheapest is Camp Samoa backpackers at $30.00 followed by the Transit Hotel (opposite Aggie Greys Resort and the other way from Apia) at $65.00. You are right that most Fales are on the South Coast and not in Apia. You are up for $25.00 to get to Apia on the AG Shuttle, or $50.00 to get to Camp Samoa. Transit Hotel will pick you up from the airport (no charge, I think). Do not recommend sleeping at the airport!

And the $ is Samoan Tala, not US-Dollar ... So at a rate of 2.2 Tala for 1 USD, the standard room at the Transit Motel will cost you 65 Tala = 30 USD. Shared facilities, but Including breakfast and most likely free transfer. You can take the bus to get to Apia during the day later on.
Fale accommodation is good for the beach, but there is no beach to speak of in Apia.

That would be something like: For my first night on the journey I take the worst accommodation I can find - and it only can get better after that ;-) At Tripadvisor.com, Tatiana Fugalei ranks at #27 out of 28 hotels in Samoa and trust me, that is for a reason. That one more hotel on their list is still without any ranking, thus ranked 28 and last then ....

Try Tatiana Tanugamanono instead. Very decent place. It's really funny that the same owners have the best and the worst backpacker in town.

The Hostelworld rate is quite strange. First of all their currency conversion is way outdated or much leaning in their favour. Then it says 'per person' ... Even for the rate it states 'Single' it very much looks like being based on a shared double. 13 Dollar are 30 Tala, not 32.22 Tala. And Tatiana themselves give a rate of 49 Tala for the room. I looked at some other rates for Samoa on Hostelworld and they are really per person, meaning a Twin room costs twice the rate shown etc. Can be very misleading.
