Accessible Family Snorkelling

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi all! Need some advice, please & thank you. I am heading to Fiji end of July for three weeks. The first two weeks we will be in Suva visiting my in-laws. The final week I want to take my eight-year-old daughter to experience some amazing snorkeling. I will also have my 73-year-old mother with me who has some mobility issues. She gets around all right but I can't see her climbing from a boat up a ladder to a wharf. The coral coast seems the obvious answer but at the same time I've read that the reef there has been seriously damaged. Does anybody know if this is true? I know the outer islands are amazing for snorkelling I just don't know if I can get my mom there. Wherever we go needs to be family friendly, not a party place and reasonable $150F /night max. Any thoughts??

do a google for snorkelling mananuca islands. day trips from Nadi

I would also recommend a day trip from the Nadi area. We did a day trip to Mana Island - access was easy as they have a dock so your mother would be able to get on and off the boat easily. lunch was provided and you had the use of the resort facilities. The snorkeling off the North Beach would be excellent for your daughter - there are several nice beaches to explore and the terrain would not be too difficult for your mother. The day trips have shuttle pick up from most accommodations (we used Raffles) to the boat.
