Advice for travelling to Fiji

I am going to Fiji with a few friends in December 07-January 08. I will be there for a full month and want to do a wide variety of things. Things that really interest me are skydiving, island hopping on a small boat/kayak, visiting many deserted islands, meeting locals, or anything else adventurous. I am not too interested in doing the resort/tourist type things and I am also on a budget(not a really tight budget but cost will be a consideration). If anybody has done a similar trip and would like to share any advice that would be great...I would like to talk through online messages or maybe even on the phone, but if not then just post anything you know in the forum.
