-
ATMs work and are prevalent. Internet is non-existent and mobile phone charges if you use Digicel are EXTREMELY expensive. So it's not hooked for telecomms though the mobile coverage is decent but expensive
-
PMVs are uncomfortable but not really dangerous and you can get places but only in the day. Don't do this in the night - it's totally risky. Also don't believe the number of hours PMV drivers quote - everything takes WAY longer than you'd think.
-
Don't recommend the Rainforest Habitat in Lae - it's just a zoo.
-
In Madang - the reef is amazing but no snorkels to be found! The guy who works at the Madang resort hotel is really really uncooperative and not helpful, not answering any questions. Try to find a snorkel before you get to these places
-
That said, people are extremely friendly/lovely. Be a bit careful though if you are Australian. (I'm not)
-
Wewak - DO NOT go to Alois Mateos - he's not helpful and a rip off. Find an independent guide like Seby Mai or Cyril Tara. Much cheaper and much more professional.
-
The Sepik is amazing but key things you can do there can be done in 3 days. That's it.
-
Carvings are really hard to tote around but give it yr best shot. No quarantining or certificates from PNG are accepted anywhere else so don't even bother with that
-
Moresby - go to Lamana - crazy danceclub with the cheesiest hits again and again and again. But the city is super sketchy.
-
The Highlands - amazing but the trekking is tough. Don't believe the number of hours guides will quote you - Triple that!
Have a great trip - it's an amazing place.
