PORT MORESBY, PNG ---- Air Niugini has announced the introduction of its service to Fiji which will commence on 23 March, Fiji Times reports. In announcing the new service, Air Niugini chairman, Jim Tjoeng and chief executive officer, Wasantha Kumarasiri said the national flag carrier has achieved yet another milestone with its initiative to expand Air Niugini's network and access to other markets. In a statement Mr Kumarasiri said the flights to Nadi will operate via Honiara in both directions on a twice weekly basis on Friday and Sunday from Port Moresby to Nadi and returning on Saturday and Monday. Air Niugini would operate a two class service on its 100-seat Fokker 100 aircraft including eight business class seats. It said the flight schedule provides great opportunities for tourism to Papua New Guinea and business and leisure travel to Fiji as well as alternative and convenient options for travel via Nadi to the United States, New Zealand and other Pacific Island destinations.

| Laszlo10:54 UTC11 Mar 2007 | This would be great news except that any international route by Air Niugini is likely to be so expensive that it's of academic interest to most travellers. Their flight to Honiara is already very expensive, I can imagine that if they extend it to Fiji, it will be even worse, quite possibly costing more than flying via AU.
I wish Air Pacific started offering this route with their good value discounted fares...
Then again, it's yet another Pacific country linked to Fiji!

| pngmangi05:16 UTC12 Mar 2007 | Laszlo you are correct. The 'super saver discount' POM - Nadi fare is K2440 or around A$1000!
Air Niugini have a huge ad campaign on at the moment offerring big discounts. When I went to book they were unfortunately all taken! Didn't take long....

| Laszlo11:12 UTC12 Mar 2007 | How much was the fare when discounted? Also, are they offering discounts on the yet-to-start Rabaul-Cairns route, too?

| pngmangi06:01 UTC13 Mar 2007 | K2440 is the discounted fare. Not sure what the normal tariff would be.
No idea yet on what the Cairns - Rabaul fare would be.
