Air Pass

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I've just bought a 1 month (not 30 days) Micronesia air pass with Continental.
You need to fly internationally in & out of Guam.
5 stops costs US$975 (in July\August) & can include Majuro,Saipan,Rota,Palau & the 4 Fed. States of Micronesia.
4 stops is US$745,but doesn't inc. Majuro.
On top of this there is a fuel surcharge,so you need to route it & keep your mileage down;i.e.you can fly Guam - Majuro - Pohnpei - Guam & Guam - Palau - Yap - Guam.
You can't stop overnight in Guam during the months' pass, but you can transit.
Enjoy
John

Glad to hear that the pass is still active. It always seems like Continental hides the details, when I wrote my Palau Guidebook I attempted to get official information from Continental Airlines, but they would not give out the information. Did you book it with a travel agent? Did you book it in the United States? Does it include the flight from Los Angeles or does the fare begin in Honolulu? Sory to ask so many questions, but I am sure there are others out there who are interested in the particulars.

I tried their web-site as well, but it was no good.Where as the girls in Continentals' (5801,The Centre,Queens Road,Central) office in Hong Kong - where I bought the tickets - were very helpful.
US$975 & 745 is just for ther 31 days around the Pacific islands.
I've also got a flight, with Continental, from Tokyo to Bali via Guam.

Hi All,
I have done some extensive research on this continental island hopping ticket and have spend at least 35hours on it!!! Anyway after alot of frustration the only way you can purchase this ticket (which by the name is called a vusmic) and when speaking directly to continental they know this. Anyway sorry the only way you can qualify for this ticket is if you fly with continental from your region of destination and in addition must come from guam and return to gaum. For example i wanted to fly continental from Taiwan to Guam and then purchase this vusmic and thought after many hours and days that i was all set, however because i am originating from israel i cannot fly from israel to taiwan on any airline, i have to fly with continental and only then can i get this pass. Absolutely absurd as the best way for me to fly is via hong kong and continental does not fly there from tel aviv, so i would have to fly to the US making my flight time double!!!! who needs it. In the end we are still going but had to compromise alot and unfortunately will not be able to visit Kosorae and will only be able to get to yap and palau. A real pitty for tourism as continental truly dominate the sky's in that region!!!!
I am sure we will have a great time, its just been a real headache trying to actually get flights, and then the connections to the islands on continental.....well that is another whole story on its own......
good luck to you all and have a great time in FSM!

Thanks for a little more insight into the world's most closely guarded secret, the Continental Micronesian Air Pass, or as we all now know, code word "Vusmic" It does appear many of you will have to imigrate to a country served by Continental in order to qualify for the fare, small price to pay for a discounted ticket, eh? Happy travels to all!

Hi all,

Thank you John for the information about booking Visit Micronesia airpass from Continental's Hong Kong office. I was staying for a while in Hong Kong and I booked the 5 stops pass for January. Their office is not in the same place any more but I managed to buy the pass by calling their Hong Kong service number.

The pass is valid for 30 days and the route Guam-Majuro-Kosrae-Pohnpei-Guam-Yap-Koror-Guam cost me 8836 HKD (998 USD) in total (including taxes and fees). You have to fly in and out of Guam with Continental but it doesn't have to be from your place of origin like it was mentioned above. Since I'll be in Philippines in January I booked the tickets to Guam from Manila.

after being transferred thru 5 desks and too many people via UNITED AIRLINES yesterday on the phone, I was able to reach the "alliance" desk.
As of 9/19/12, the Micronesia Air Pass still exists and the way it is priced is via what cities you plan to go through.

I understand these prices to be cheaper than what you would normally pay if you booked on your own, but in order to get the cheapest route, you do not want to back-track through 2 zones at a time. There is no base price to pay for the pass, but you just have to know it exists. There is a 3 days stay minimum at each stop-over, and you must complete at least 2 stop-overs in order to get the discounted fares. I believe that you can "start" at any of the airports they service with the micronesia pass, however they do include tokyo as a starting point...

additionally, you might want to know that you can only buy the airpass discounted fares following the purchase of a round-trip ticket to one of the origin cities, using award miles or money on a star alliance / united partner....
