airpass tahiti

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hello,

I've been reading about flying between the islands in French Poly.
A question: I read in the VERY nice site

http://tahitionabudget.blogspot.com

about the airpass
Bora Bora Pass:
Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Maupiti 36800 cfp = 308 euros

I'd like to know if this is the price per flight or to visit all these islands.
We'd go to Moorea and Bora Bora, only.

Any information is VERY welcome!

Do you know what is the cheapest accomodation in Bora Bora?
What about camping there?

Would you book your flights in advance? It would be ok to do not fly
on the day, but we'd be frustrated to wait three days for a flight.
We'll be there in July.

Thank you VERY much for all help.

Good dive spots????

The airpass is cheaper than point to point when visiting both Moorea and Bora Bora. The 308 Euros would be the price per person for all flights. But the price for the aipass is based on the season so make sure this is for July. The cheapest hotel is Le Maitai Polynesia, but there are pensions that are less expensive. Some are pretty run down or simple though. I've never camped there. You are going during the peak honeymoon season so will want to book the flights ahead of time. Plus I don't think you can purchase the airpass once you are there. Bora Bora is better for diving than Moorea. Lots of pelagics. Top Dive is a good operator.

Enjoy!!!

CaptainDAndola,

thank you very much. The price I've quoted is for the high season.
Do you know if taxes are added or if they are included in the price of the
air passes?

Do you know if the diving in Bora Bora is as good as that in Fakarava? I've been
reading other posts and it seems there are Hammerheads in Fakarava. Do you
know anything about it?

Thank you again for your input!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About the accommodation, I'm looking for the cheapest, really, it can be the shabbiest of places,
as long as there is a bed. I don't care if I have to walk to the beach. I've already slept on the sands
on a beach in Brazil. Anyway, when we are traveling we don't spend much time in the room.

Thank you!

We booked our air pass directly with Air Tahiti on line and the price included taxes. You will want to have flights booked early as July is the start of high season and the more popular routes could be sold out when you arrive. There is camping on most of the islands - you should check out a guidebook at the bookstore or library for a list of places. You could also check out www.tahiti-explorer.com and ask your questions on their forum. You have chosen a beautiful place to visit.

Yep. Tax is included on airpass prices. The diving in Fakarava is better than Bora Bora but getting there is more expensive. There is a Tuamotu pass which I'm sure you have seen but if you have to go back through Papeete to get there, there may be an additional charge, so look at the rules closely when booking. I answered your hammerhead question on your other post. I hope you find a good budget place to stay. I'm sure you will.

CaptainDandola,

thank you very much for your help on both posts!!!!

I'll be going to Beqa (Fiji) to see the sharks. Fakarava, though, is just too
much money... one can't have everything! We're already so lucky, aren't we?

Thank you very much.

If you have time for an amazing service interval, you have to go rafting on the Upper Navua in Fiji. It is beautiful, peaceful, and a lot of fun. http://www.oars.com/fiji/uppernavuagorge.html

Will do!!! Thank you!!!

And we decided to go to Fakarava after all. I've read they have accommodation for 7000 CFP...

If I had it to do over again, I would not buy an airpass. The websites make you very nervous. You can get to Moorea by the ferry (only 20 min., around $10)
or Air Moorea (around $25, 10 minute flight, there is a flight every 20 minutes or so, no need for reservations, the locals are using this also. Just walk up to the desk and buy your ticket.) I would only buy the ticket to Bora Bora, on Air Tahiti. You can do this. Also, there are so
many flights per day, I was there in May and bought my tickets from the Air Tahiti office there, in downtown
Papeete.
