Airpass the way to go?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hello!

We have 11 nights in polynesia and would like to split our time between 3 islands - bora bora, huahine and moorea before returning to tahiti. Is the airpass the best way to go to get between these islands as I know that moorea is only 20min ferry away from tahiti? And as ive seen the airpasses include many other islands. Also how far in advance would u book the flights? Ive been researching accommodation also but in moorea and huahine Im getting confused at the wherebouts of hotels/pensions on each island (as many are inland i think). Ideally we would like somewhere with private amenites and near the lagoons/beaches. Any accommdation suggestions would be greatful. How far in advanced would these need to be booked?

Apologies for the haphazard nature of these questions, but this stopover has only just come to light and we will be in tahiti in august!

Thanks..

If you check out the Air Tahiti web site you should find the schedules and costs for the various flights between the islands. If I remember, you can only travel from some islands on certain days or you cannot travel between certain islands without having to stop on another. Once you get a schedule worked out, check out the cost of the separate flights and see if it would be cheaper to use a pass. We did something similar but also had Raiatea on our list and used the Bora Bora air pass. It might be cheaper to fly Tahiti-Huahine-Bora Bora-Tahiti and then do Moorea by ferry. I would suggest booking as soon as you have decided your schedule as August is high season with many Europeans visiting at that time(school holidays) If you have not already done so, I would suggest looking at tripadvisor.com to check out the FP forum and hotel lists. Many of the hotels have been reviewed and you should be able to get some idea of their location. If you would like a list of our accommodation please PM me. Another good site for information is www.tahiti-explorer.com - they have an active board who can help you with all your questions. We were also there in August and absolutely loved it. Huahine and Bora Bora were our favorites. I hope you have a great trip!
