Alotau and the Kundu Festival

Hello all,

Has anyone been to the Kundu festival in Alotau? I'm planning to possibly go. Would one have to book in advance for accommodation? (I'm more of a find-a-place-as-I-go kinda traveler) Is it really packed? I read that cruise ships now go there... Any info would be appreciated. cheers
