Hi,

I am considering planning a trip to Fiji for my husbands and I's 25th wedding anniversary. I know nothing about Fiji, all I know is they awesome huts out in the middle of the water. I was wondering if anyone has stayed in a hut? If so, what was the experience like and was is worth the money? What part of Fiji is best to visit and how hard is it to get around the island? Are there strict rules and regulations for visitors or restricted areas? Is there any concerns for our safety?
Thank you,

Geckoflower.

The only overwater Bures I am aware of in Fiji are at LikuLiku Resort on Malolo Island.
We stayed in its sister resort (Malolo) next door but have stayed in Overwater bures in Tahiti.
Staying in an overwater is nice and probably worth it if it for a special occasion like your 25th.
LikuLiku is on an island off the main Fiji island so you are pretty much restricted to the resort area with a few bush walks around the resort to Malolo resort and another nearby beach.
No strict rules and no worry about safety out on the islands or on the mainland either really.
We have holidayed in Fiji 18 times in the last 12 years and never had a problem, weather is usually good out in the Mamanuca islands.
The islands are better than the mainland is you want to snorkel but if you just want to chill out the main island is Ok for that and you could then see more of Fiji itself.

Thank you for the feed back smandkjc. How many times have you visited Tahiti? For someone that has never been to either Tahiti or Fiji, which place would you recommend and why? How fortunate that you have been able to visit Fiji 18 times, it must be an amazing place to be.

Have been to Tahiti 4 times, once to BoraBora and 3 times to Moorea, have had a total of 72 overseas holidays, Fiji is just easy to get to from NZ, it is cheaper than Tahiti but helicopter transfers to the islands does increase the cost a bit.
Have been to most of the Pacific Islands, they are all different and we enjoy them all
