Another Tsunami Generated

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Just a short time ago. One is bad- two in 24 hours beyond terrible. No further news on it as yet as it is just being reported.

I'm sorry- in the Solomons again.

And now a third one seems to have been generated.

Oh dear- am I stepping on toes again? Sorry if I am. Hope these have not been terribly destructive ones.

2

Not terribly destructive, even though 0.1 on the Richter Scale higher than the one that destroyed Port-Au-Prince a week later.
I was in Malaita at the time, and only knew it had happened because I heard it on Radio Australia on short wave. We did feel one of the after-shocks 36 hours later.
About 1000 people on one island (Rendova) had their homes damaged enough to be unliveable.
I came home to Australia on Wednesday this week, and since then there have been extensive floods on Guadalcanal, Malaita and possibly other islands. Not as exciting as an earthquake or tsunami, but more people will have had homes and food gardens damaged.
