Any advice on PNG Research visas?

Hi there,

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the seemingly elusive 'Research Visa' for scientific work in PNG?

I heard that they guy in charge of distributing them in PNG had left his post and that there was no official replacement as of yet. I've been emailing and calling around but I haven't made much headway which is a bit frustrating!

I finally got through to the High Commission but I've to call back at a later time which I'll try. In the meantime, I'd really appreciate any information / hearing other peoples experiences with this such as how long it took to process, where they found the necessary documents etc. I should say too that I'm British, as I know there might be a different proceedure depending on nationality.
