ANYONE? Safety in Madang

Hi There.

I posted asking about the safety in Madang, Papua New Guinea, but got no responses. I have also not gotten any responses on the expat websites where I posted similar questions.

I am a single woman. I was just offered a position in Madang, and I was wondering how safe it would be for me there. The job is very low paying, and they say that they offer security, but I do not think it is comparible to the contracts where people are making $150,000.

Does anyone have any input on this.

I spent a couple of weeks in Madang in 2005, with my girlfriend. It seemed a safe place, relative to PNG. Never had any problems at all. By all accounts it's where expats in PNG go on holiday. The Country Womans Institute offers good quality and safe accommodation.

If you stay in Madang, take a day trip to Pig Islands (little or big island) and do some snorkelling. Pristine reef.
