Arriving in Apia Samoa

Some flights seem to arrive from Sydney to Samoa at 12.45 am , what resort would pick you up at that hour .?

All of them.

The airport is basically closed during the daytime. All of the flights are at night, so hotels, taxis, etc are all accustomed to night arrivals.

Yes, you can check in then, but you will be charged for that night which is fair enough I think.

Don't check in until later that morning, why pay for a few hours?

Arriving into Apia at around midnight, we encountered a driver who claimed to have been sent by the hotel we were staying at. He took us to our hotel, no problem, but it turned out that he wasn't sent by them and the driver they had sent was still waiting at the airport! The hotel weren't pleased that we'd taken the private taxi after booking with them, but since the driver had lied to us, we weren't to know.
