best time to visit Rarotonga??? please suggestCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
I wish to visit Raro in the next 11 months and was hoping someone knows better can advise me the best time to visit and the worst times to avoid. I read it is cyclone time until the end of March. I would also like to avoid the rains and the mosquito times. Is it alright in April? Also, what beaches are best for cleanliness and shallow, safe lagoons? Thank you.
The best time is somewhat subjective. The best time for weather is probably around September-October. To some the best time is during the annual dance finals, to others it is the holidays. For the most part the geographic location close to the equator makes all seasons mild. More rain and cyclone season January to March, with more rain. Nosquitos are mostly inland on Rarotonga and around O'otu Beach area on Aitutaki. The best beaches are in and near Muri Lagoon, with shallow safe lagoons. The best snorkeling is between Fruits of Rarotonga and Aroa Beach. Have a great trip. Papa Mike | 1
Mike hit most of it. But basically it's warm days cool nights from May to Oct, then hot days, warm nights, humid all the time from Nov to April. I like May/June or Sept/Oct, not much humidity, nice days, mellow nights. | 2
Thanks guys! What would the day and night teperatures be in Raro in April and would mosquito's be a nuisance in April? Any suggestions for self catering accommodation in Muri Lagoon? Cheers | 3
Hard to say exactly for April, or any month, but in general maybe 75-85F during the day, maybe 65-70 at night. But still can be quite humid. Mozzies are mostly inland, or inland side of the main road. For Muri, check out Aremango hostel, or Vara's (but that can be noisy), | 4
