Bicycles in Santo?

I am planning a trip to Santo later in the year. It's my first trip to Santo, I have been to Pt Vila and Tanna a number of times.

I realise that Santo and all of Vanuatu is hilly and mountainous, but is there any merit in bringing bicycles with us to Santo? At least for the purpose of riding around town and getting from the airport to our accommodation. We then intend to leave them behind for the locals.

Has anyone taken a bicycle to Vanuatu. Did the airline charge you extra for it?
