Bizarre similarities!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I thought this was bizarre... Almost creepy... Well, creepy that two landscapes could look so similar... One being tropical, the other sub-arctic boreal forest in Canada.

One picture is from New Caledonia... The other from Northern Saskatchewan.

New Caledonia pines

Saskatchewan spruce

It is creepy. The New Caledonia lagoon looks so beautiful but the trees are offputting, I want lush palms not harsh pines.

NC pines are not harsh!!!
In fact I think they look lovely - and that shot of Oro Bay is a classic scene featuring them.
Actually in other places, they stand mixed with coconut palms...

The pines may look similar, but to me the NC photo still looks a lot more inviting than the Canadian one - more sunshine, pure blue water, white sand... ;-)

When are you going, Greg? ;-)

Laszlo: I have booked my ticket as of this week... I will be in SEA for 2 months and then on to Samoa for a few weeks. Will be leaving Jan. 5th.

Where exactly are YOU now?

3

In Indonesia - for a year!
Coming over? ;-)

4

I see no similarities at all.

The trees in question are similar in name only.

5

I see as much similarity between the two kinds of trees as I do between the posters cardamom and copperspoon.

Which is alot.

6

Laszlo - are you sure that is Oro Bay - it looks a bit more like the Piscine to me.

7

Yes, it's the Piscine, but that is usually referred to, notably on the zillion locally sold postcards featuring the same scene, as Oro Bay.
I think the term Oro Bay tends to be used to cover that entire area, not just the sandy bayfront beach proper.
