Boat to Oz

Hohohoho

Any chance of anyone knowing much about travelling by boat from Indonesia to Australia? Don't wanna fly... and like many others before and after me would like to know how you cross that big bit of water which stands between Papua New Guinea (etc.) and Oz?

Also, whilst I'm at it - and there might be an obvious answer to this one... is there a boat service or the chance to hitch a boat ride between Australia and New Zealand?

I looked into doing something similar last year. You might be able to get the odd cruise liner to New Zealand from Australia, but from Indonesia, it's near on impossible. The only boats that you might be able to get would be: Illegal fishing boats, and it's doubtful they'd let you ride with them because they often use the excuse of "We didnt know we were in Australian waters" and the presense of a foreigner blows that excuse out of the water, OR cargo ships, AND when I tried it, you couldnt travel on them unless you were insured by the boat owner, and you couldnt be insured by the boat owner unless you belonged to the union.
