Border crossing from Solomon Is to PNGCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi there, We (my Girlfriend and I) are trying to figure out if there is a way of getting from the Solomon Islands to PNG without having to buy a crazy expensive air fair. We did not know that an outbound flight from Honiara was needed to enter the country so when we arrived from Nadi the customs were not happy and told us the only way to PNG from the SI is on a flight from Honiara - but is there a another way? We would like to island hope our way to PNG via Bougainville. The customs gave us a flight itinary and let us in to Honiara and told us to buy the flight the next day (today) but we just found out the price - 400 english pounds! Please help quick as we are trying to avoid paying a massive price for a flight - would be much more fun to take a boat. Thank you, Nathan and Jasmin
I am afraid there is no really legal/safe way. I did cross from PNG to the Solomons years ago, but that was DESPITE the PNG officials specifically telling me it was not allowed and giving me no exit stamp. You may not get a warm welcome to PNG if entering this way! If you still try, and do get in legally, let us know. | 1
it's a pitty, really. would love to do this border crossing (solomon islands into bougainville PNG) in a few years... but I don't know... before, I hope to find some more info here... well, just found this article on the internet: PNG, Solomons discuss illegal border crossings well, it's neither new nor spectacular I guess so what did you do, Nathan and Jasmin??? penso | 2
