border crossing Indonesia PNG

Just heard that the land border between Jayapura and Vanimo ist closed at least for foreigners. Has anybody recently crossed from PNG into Indonesia or viceversa?
Its quite important for us as otherwise you have to do a mighty and expensive detour via either Singapore or Bali.

I have not crossed recently, but want to note that this border has always been very unpredictable.

It may be closed one day and open the next.
When I first went to PNG, I checked right at the border and was told it was closed and I had to hire a boat to cross (also an option for you). I did so and arrived in Vanimo only to find another tourist crossed the same day overland without even knowing the border was supposed to be closed!
