Calling out all Tahiti experts

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi to all Tahiti experts and others too,

I happened to start organizing my trip to Tahiti.
Some people in this forum and also other elsewhere suggested I leave purchasing my airfare ticket / pass between particular islands in French Polynesia until I arrive on the spot in Tahiti and then buying a ticket or pass there. Reason: Its cheaper to buy it in Tahiti than offshore (In my case Australia). Is it true???

There is a website of Air Tahiti and prices seem official and given, so...?
Please enlighten me on this.

In 15 days spent there Im thinking of doing this trip (preliminary itinerary): Tahiti - Moorea (boat) - Bora Bora (air) - and then one of the Tuamotu islands (probably Tikehau). Is this feasible in the time period? Moreover I just still hover between Maupiti (Society archipelago) and Tuamotu islands (Tikehau), on ground its so expensive to get to the outer archipelago. Bottom line is I might omit Tuamotu island, but I wanna hear some others' opinion.

much appreciate

We purchased our airpass on line before we left home. It is cheaper to get the pass in Tahiti but you have to take the chance the flight you want will be available. We had a tight schedule planned and did not want to take the chance of sold out flights. Some times of the year are better than others - you really should have reservations early for July/August. For more help check out www.tahiti-explorer.com - they had a very active forum but I haven't checked lately.

Just a hint to make life easier: The printout of your Air Tahiti flights booked via internet is NOT an e-ticket. You have to get a paper ticket at the airport office, not at the town office. I wasn't aware of this and had to go out to the airport again to get my tickets, since the town office refused them to issue. Well, you can get the paper ticket before departure, but since I had a flight at around 6.00 am, the airport office would have been closed at that time.
