Camping in Bora Bora??Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hello! I know that so many of you say there is no or very little camping in Bora Bora, but that seems so hard to believe with all the beachs and space! Is this really true? What about hostals? There are no hostals for backpackers? Is a cheap night there really $150??? How much should be plan to budget for food? Thank you!!
Google boraboraisland or Tahitisuntravel - I recall seeing an ad there for Pension Lagoonarium - they have camping and a dorm. Have no idea of prices but should be less than $150. As for food - it's hard to give a budget - we brought some supplies with us(peanut butter, jam, packets of tuna, tea and coffee, etc) and bought the cheap baguettes, pastries and fruit. Some of the smaller stores sell nice sandwiches for reasonable prices - we ate out one evening and enjoyed great pizzas at a good price. It will be more expensive than other places but it is possible to do Bora Bora on a budget - the most expensive part is getting there! | 1
When I was on Bora Bora last November, Pension Lagoonarium was not open. However they referred me to Stelio who runs a pension and other business over on the Anau side of the island. His phone number is 31 24 94. He will pick you up and take you back to the wharf when you leave. He will also run you down to Matira point for the beach there. That is the only real beach area on the main island. All the beaches you see in adverts are out on the little islets out in the lagoon where the bungerlow resorts are. Stelio is a sweetheart. Tell him Stella gave you his phone number. At his pension he has rooms with two beds per room, shared kitchen and bathroom. I forget the exact price but around US$30 a night. There was a little Chinese store down the road about 200 meters to buy your french bread at but be there at 7am to get it before they run out. You can also hike up the track through his land to the top of the mountain...great views and note the malae a little way up. | 2
Check out Bora Bora camping on Facebook. They're located on the motu. https://www.facebook.com/pages/BoraBoracamping/227588257272338 They opened last year I believe. I already booked my stay with them in May. They take a while to answer emails as I suppose it's not widely available there. | 3

Cool. How much were they charging? | 5
20000XPF a night, that's about 16eur I believe | 6
You must mean 2000 xpf. They are situated in the most stunning location - absolutely breathtaking. | 7

Thanks for sharing your experience in Bora Bora - what a great trip you had! It brought back great memories for me - I can close my eyes and still see the amazing colors of that beautiful lagoon! | 9
I am delighted you enjoyed it ! The colors are indeed out of this world, I would go back to the camping in a heartbeat. It was such a good feeling to share the same lagoon, the same mountain and the same motu as many others.. for so much less money | 10
Well done. Beautiful photos. | 11
