Can anyone explain this new Thorn Tree to Me????????????

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi---
I am befuddled.
I went onto the TT, to the Pacific Islands branch.
There I find, at the top of the list (after one fixed one) postings from over two months ago, that no one has responded to in almost two months!!!

What happened to the system whereby the latest ones replied to, or posted, are at the top of the list I see???

Is there something I need to do to set this up????

I went to the FAQ's etc about this new TT, but could not easily find the answer.

My initial feeling is that TT4 sucks, but I'll keep an open mind for a little while.

Any help???

Raro

I find it downright SHOCKING!!!

It's UGLY, too!

Replying also takes ages - at least here in Indo with slow connection.

Head for the Polls branch and add your vote to "We want the Old TT back!" - it stands at 90% now, with those wishing to keep this new disaster being the 10%.

1

The complete page takes ages to open and is very confusing - my vote is out!

2

I thought I'd give it a go to find out how it works, but so far, the narrow text column once you click on a thread, but wide ad column on the right, are particularly annoying.
It doesn't seem slow to me (Aussie broadband) so far.

3

In the meantime, the poll I've mentioned above, about wanting the old TT back or keeping this new one, has been deleted by the mods.
I wonder if it's indeed the BBC, or maybe the heavily-censored Chinese media that has bought LP recently! ;-)

4

This is just crazy! How do we get our old TT back?

5

It loads really slowly.
It's not as user friendly.
It looks straight out of the mid-90s.
What were they thinking?
It reminds me of when they created the new counterintuitive format for the guidebooks a few years ago and everyone found it completely idiotic ... they eventually got the point and changed back. I HOPE THEY'RE LISTENING.

6

It'll take some time for people to find things and get used to the new layout.

However, the ever-present LP ads on the right <>

They take up more page space than the postings I come here for. I fear that the commercially oriented 'minds' (just a figure of speech..) are going to leave it there.

My other major complaint is the default posting order. It used to be most recent OP at the top. Now it seems to be the most recent responded to, which is not user-friendly at all

I prefer to have the latest threads at the top so you can easily check to see if anyone has answered the questions posed.
If no one has answered I will always try and answer if I have any knowledge of where the person wants to go.
Now it looks like you would have to search several pages for new threads as I cant see where you can change the order of the threads in your profile.
This will mean that posters may miss out on getting replies and surely the reason for starting the forum in the first place was as a service to provide knowledge.
Sure you can comercialise it and have the adds etc and it still
loads fast enough on broadband but if it takes too long to find new posts I will probably not bother.

8

There are some serious difficulties with this new format... esp. for us ludites running windows 98. I really have to say "So far, not so good".

Completely user unfriendly.

9

I'm with the rest of you. Takes longer to access on my brand new computer with broadband than the old one did on a 12 year old computer with dial-up. Hard to find anything and I HATE the ads down the side.

10

dislike it intensely... just logged on to do some travel research and am confronted by this shocking webpage with loads of ads and information... bring back TT3!

11

Where's the quote button and the http button?

Oh well , Ill cut and paste

Quote - "My initial feeling is that TT4 sucks, but I'll keep an open mind for a little while" - nope, your initial reaction was correct.

Well goodbye Roman and hello New Format. I haven't the time to buggerise around with new ideas. But if anyone wants to look after our house and cars in Niue from 17th of Jan 08 through to a date that has yet be determined, Let me Know. And don't buggerise around going to New format personal messages. I didn't get where I am today by buggerising around with personal messages. I'm at markcross@niue.nu so don't buggerise around with the new format. Cut and paste it and talk straight.

love crossie

oh my GOD!! this is horrendous, ok, so the LP need the revenue generated by those intrusive ads on the right, but really!!! NOT user friendly, NOT efficient, not anything really hey? still no doubt after a couple of weeks/months/years we'll all become accustomed/adjusted to the new format - but meanwhile - thumbs down!
