celebrating new years eve twice in 2008

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I don't expect anything more from the AU/NZ thread so I will try here too: Anyone have any info on celebrating new years eve twice in 2008, somewhere in the area of Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, Tonga, etc? I only found three flights that may be useful:

TBU - PPG on polynesian (this was the best option, but I think it was cancelled)
TBU - APW on Air New Zealand (it arrives at 10:30pm and may be too late for the countdown)
AUK - APW on Pacific Blue (second best alternative, but just a longer, more expensive alternative)

Is it easy to find charters that specialize in this event?

Spend New Yrs eve in Auckland NZ. The next day get on an Air NZ (or Pacific Blue) flight to Rarotonga, Cook Islands, which is across the Dateline. If the flight leaves NZ early enough in the day, you will arrive on RAR back on December 31, local time.

Lots of people did this in the 1999/2000 millenium frenzy.

RAR is also not crowded with tourists at Xmas/New Yrs., since most seats are taken by CI ers living in NZ who return back for the holidays, and no room for too many tourists. So, accommodation is not a problem, but most airline seats are sold out by August or so.

Have fun!
