cheap options around plantation island

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi guys,

We have been invited to a wedding on Plantation Island Fiji in October. Ive checked out the accommodation there and its pretty expensive (and we are on a budget!). I was wondering whether anyone has some ideas for ways that we could do this a little cheaper - are there other islands nearby where we might be able to stay and easily (and cheapishly) commute over. We would spend one night on Plantation Island on the eve of the wedding and then maybe head somewhere else (not too far away) for another few nights before heading home. Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks

If Malolailai is on the route of the main flyer/ferry boat then you can 'escape' to another, cheaper island. Look at Old Pros links in the 'Fiji - Likuliku Lagoon Resort' thread below. Yalombi Village on Waya Island would be one of the cheapest places you can stay in the Yasawas.

The Yasawas are miles away from Plantation Island.
A cheaper option that is close by (but still a boat trip away) would be Funky Fish.
Its only a few minutes away but you cant walk it due to the mangroves in between.
I am sure the owner Brad could arrange cheap transfers for you.

did you look at Dick's place? it's a yachtie hang out (that's a good thing) and a little less expensive. more mosquitoes (i know, you didn't think it was possible) than plantation. check ALL class of accommodation. they both used to offer dorms, but that was many years ago. FANTASTIC SNORKELING!!!!
