Cheapest Places in Oceania

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I am very interested in going to Oceania, but I am a bit concerned about the cost.

I want to travel on a budget. Are there any places in Oceania where I can get a hotel room for two people for $20 USD or less? Or somewhere around there? Of course, the place would have to be on a nice beach! :D

Yep, there is a place: Ha'apai in the Kingdom of Tonga. Diana`s Resort on Uoleva is set on a picture postcard white sandy beach and the double beach hut costs only 35 Tongan Dollar (approx.US$18). It´s pretty simple, but very clean and has a very friendly atmosphere. And if you get fed up with sunbathing, swinging in a hammock and sipping coconut juice, the local dive operator on Lifuka Island can arrange all sorts of activities.

I really think there should still be places around that amount in Fiji, Samoa and the Solomons and PNG, too. Well, I found quite a few a few years ago, but was traveling alone.

Obviously the very cheapest places in Oceania as a geographical/cultural, rather than political unity would be in the parts of Indonesia falling into this region: (West) Papua and Maluku. While expensive compared to the rest of Indonesia, they are cheap compared to the independent Pacific nations, and I'd dare to say more interesting than most.
Some info on those in my signo lines.
