Cheapest Places in OceaniaCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
I am very interested in going to Oceania, but I am a bit concerned about the cost. I want to travel on a budget. Are there any places in Oceania where I can get a hotel room for two people for $20 USD or less? Or somewhere around there? Of course, the place would have to be on a nice beach! :D
Yep, there is a place: Ha'apai in the Kingdom of Tonga. Diana`s Resort on Uoleva is set on a picture postcard white sandy beach and the double beach hut costs only 35 Tongan Dollar (approx.US$18). It´s pretty simple, but very clean and has a very friendly atmosphere. And if you get fed up with sunbathing, swinging in a hammock and sipping coconut juice, the local dive operator on Lifuka Island can arrange all sorts of activities. | 1
I really think there should still be places around that amount in Fiji, Samoa and the Solomons and PNG, too. Well, I found quite a few a few years ago, but was traveling alone. Obviously the very cheapest places in Oceania as a geographical/cultural, rather than political unity would be in the parts of Indonesia falling into this region: (West) Papua and Maluku. While expensive compared to the rest of Indonesia, they are cheap compared to the independent Pacific nations, and I'd dare to say more interesting than most. | 2
