Choice of resort in Fiji's Coral CoastCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Now that we have finalised flight choices and liveaboard cruise for our trip to Fiji in July 2013, my wife and I have decided to spend 4 nights in a good hotel resort after the cruise. The plan is to take a pre-booked taxi on the morning of boat disembarkation at Suva and drive back along the Suva-Nadi highway, stopping at one of the several resorts along the main island's "Coral Coast" on the southwest side for 4 nights. We want a good, fairly upmarket resort but not too big and not too uppity like the Warwick. At the same time, being in our 50s, we want to avoid places with too much disco noise and similar overactivity. Based on what information I can gather so far, I have narrowed the choice to 4 possibilities and would like members' opinions on those. 1. Rydges Hideaway Resort Please feel free to suggest any other resort which you think might be more suitable to our preferences but they must be on the sea shore along the Suva-Nadi highway and reasonably close (not more than 90 minutes by taxi) to Nadi Airport.
The Coral Coast does not appeal to us too much, better to go to an island somewhere, but the Shangrila does have a good reputation locally. Cheers, | 1
With four nights, I would seriously consider getting out to an island. Otherwise I would recommend Natadola Beach Resort or is you are feeling fancy the Intercontinental, for the simply reason as it is on the best beach on the coast. | 2
Thanks people. Following your suggestions, I have eliminated 3 of the 4 resorts I mentioned before, retaining only Shangrila Fijian for consideration. But two concerns I have are that that resort and the much recommended Natadola Beach Resort are a bit too far removed from Sigatoka. During our 4 days, we want to visit the Fiji Bird Park abd Sigatoka Sand Dunes. The other concern is whether they are a bit too expensive - although I have seen offers of F$400 per night (OK with us) for the Natadola. Another resort that some tohers have mentioned is The Naviti, which is closer to those other attractions. Any views on that one? | 3
