Aloha All, Back on good ol' Thorntree. Is it easy to get flights from Tahiti to Cook Islands , and could anybody recommend certain island/islands, also places to stay while on these islands? We don't need fancy, but nice and clean on or near the beach would be nice. Any surfing on Cook Islands? Mahalo,
There are two flights a week between Tahiti and Rarotonga, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, so you could spend 3 or 4 days on the Cook Islands. | 1
No surfing except for very advanced,as it can be dangerous landing on the reef. But as suggested above, it would only leave you a few days in Tahiti. I don't think it's really worth the extra expense and hassle for just those few days. You would need a week in each country, at a min imum, IMHO. Raro | 2
Thanx, I checked the schedule for the flights from Cook Islands and Tahiti. You guy are right we need more time. I think we need to extend our visit. :) Thanx, | 3
Papa Mike agrees a minimum of a week in each location. Have a good trip Alex! Papa Mike | 4
Alex, I agree with Raro that surfing in Rarotonga is mostly suited for more advanced surfers due to the reefs and winds (I don't know what your ability level is) Its also very fickle and not a primary surf destination. However I found a couple spots that were quite fun on higher tides and moderate swell, one on the east coast north of Muri lagoon very near a school. the other near 'black rock' but thats primarily a local's spot. Other wise its pretty inconsistent but occasionally good reefbreak, some of it hundreds of meters from shore. best thing is to hire a motorbike and scout -the winds and tides create alot of variables. Still Its a beautiful, friendly island and there are some waves to be had if you catch it right. I'm going back in a few months for another go. good luck on your travels. | 5
