Crazy ticket prices to Samoa...

Today, I was quoted a ridiculous price to fly from Toronto to Samoa.... $3600 CAN...

I laughed right in the agent's face....

She phoned me later to tell me she could fly me out of Detroit for $2800CAN...

I still think that is WAY too much...

I wonder how I can put a ticket together for this? I know Air NZ is offering to fly Toronto to Auckland for around $1200...

Would it be a good idea to book this and then do a seperate flight from Auckland to Apia?

Any suggestions?

Sydney- Samoa on Pacific Blue about $450 Oz return

I'd expect that flying to Auckland first would yield the best overall deal.
I think that I flew Auckland - Apia return for about $400 CAD on Polynesian Blue.

Specials Auckland/Samoa return on Air NZ do come up fairly regularly. You'll need to keep an eye on the blackboard specials on the NZ site which is where you'll find them. There were some a few weeks ago which covered bookings until, I think, May 2011, with some closeouts for peak periods like school hols. But, sorry, can't remember the prices!

What about Air Pacific to Fiji?

Once there, a RT to Samoa can be purchased as "Bula Pass" for just over 250 USD - this fare was given to me by Air Pacific staff at Nadi airport last week.
I think it is the cheapest RT to Samoa from anywhere, but remember that you must fly to and from Fiji on Air Pacific to get it, and the Pass is only good for 30 days at most.
Of course if you want to minimize time in Fiji, you should get the Pass in advance - now, THAT took me some time via email!

Kayak shows $722 USD Toronto to HNL and $1058 USD HNL to PPG... then PPG to APW???
