dengue fever in samoa

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Does anyone know if it's safe to travel to Western and American Samoa this month (March) regarding possible dengue fever outbrakes? Are standard precautions (mosquito-repellants) sufficient to avoid problems? Thanks!

There is no dengue fever in Independent Samoa (formerly called Western Samoa) anymore at this time. The last reports from American Samoa showed a strong decline as well and by now the risk should be gone there too. Standard precautions will certainly be enough.

Have a nice trip!
