Diving Honeymoon in February

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

My husband and I are planning a trip to Indonesia and/or the Pacific Islands in February. I am PADI certified and would love to show my husband a part of our world he has never experienced underwater. I was certified in the Gili Islands of Indonesia and absolutely loved my experience. However, I'm wondering if anyone could recommend an itinerary in the region that would be a little more romantic and off the beaten track. I personally am interested in places where many have felt a heightened sense connection and spirituality. We are quite keen on Papua New Guinea but are curious about how difficult it would be to get there from Bali or other places in Indonesia. We have two weeks total for the trip.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't dive, so can't compare, but this place in Solomon Islands is off the beaten path and gets good reviews: http://www.uepi.com/ There are other dive spots in Solomon Islands as well, just Google diving in Solomon Islands. Solomons is my fave place, but it isn't everyone's cup of tea.

If by "diving" you mean SCUBA, your husband will need a PADI certificate too before he could safely dive with compressed air. My very limited experience with diving on Pacific Islands was in French Polynesia. It was great and I think you both could have a good time just snorkeling on most any coral island in the Pacific. I wouldn't let diving opportunities figure into my selection of an island unless you want to go to someplace really spectacular like Truk Lagoon or the Great Barrier Reef.

I'll also say that it would be hard to beat French Polynesia for romance too unless you want to play Robinson Crusoe.
