diving near nadi. help!!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

hello, my friend and i arrive in nadi tomorrow morning and will be there for 4 days. ive been searching through the threads but am hoping for a more specific answer if you can help!! so we want to find somewhere good for diving near nadi if you have any suggestions?? if so where is a good place to stay and what is the best way to get there from the airport? if you know a good dive centre or an approximate price that would be greatly appreciated! thanks so much, marlee.

Do you have to stay in Nadi itself? If you can go elsewhere, but want to stay on Viti Levu, then go to Beqa lagoon. This is accessed from Pacific Harbour. There are regular buses from Nadi; it is a 150 km drive. You can get there from Nadi by bus or minivan (both inexpensive options; there are probably buses from teh airport too but I don't know details). Beqa has some good reef dives and is also known for its shark dive.

Another option is to go out to the Mamanucas. This is an island chain just out of Nadi; they are a fairly short boat trip, and the diving is reasonable. I am not aware of any operators that go out of Nadi, but there are two dive shops out in the islands which between them service most of the resorts reef safari and subsurface fiji. There are also a variety of resorts if you are on a budget. To get out there, some resorts have their own transport service, or use south sea cruises

i would skip staying in nadi and head straight to the yasawas from the airport. take a bus heading west, just outside of the airport. ask the driver to confirm that your going to the yasawa flyer.

board the flyer, it will make many island hops. you can stop in wayalailai, octopus, etc...and dive with them.

this is more convenient on your 4day trip and offers more excellent bang for your buck. best soft corals in the world. saw one of my biggest manta ray and giant octopus in the yasawas

The point of NOT staying in Nadi is that the beaches in the area are poor for diving, and in most cases non-existent due to the sand (mud) colour.

#2's suggestion makes sense
