Do you need a rental car in FIJI?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi, we are going to Fiji next month. We are staying at Fiji Palms. Can anyone let us know if we need a rental car in Fiji or is there a good source of public transportation?

there is a good bus service, Pacific, Sunset or Sunbeam between Lautoka, Nadi and Suva, both on the Queens Highway and the Kings Highway, and cheap as well, $16FJ from the airport to Suva, also you could afford a local taxi. If you go to Suva, do go to the Museum, you can walk from the bus top and the Markets (especially good on Saturday, but not so good for other things as a lot of the shops, (except for the tourist shops) shut about 2pm), and Colo-i-suva park would be about $10 FJ by taxi, Local buses in Suva are 70c a trip and you could go back to the city by bus after the park. Think about the Navua River excursion, especially if the weather is fine. The side roads are not that great and I hardly think you would be venturing onto them. You say we, are you just two or more as a taxi would work out OK.
