Easter Island

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I just booked tickets for a trip next year to Tahiti and Easter Island. While I have plenty of info on French Polynesia, I would appreciate recommendations for smaller, local hotels in Easter Island (I'm not interested in the Explora or another large hotel) -- I'd prefer something like a B&B run by a local family. Also, any other information on Easter Island -- we will be there for three full days, flying from Papeete.

I'll also post on the South America branch.

Thanks, Michael

The Hotel Taura'a is a great little place run by a local and her Aussie husband. He does great tours.
The best place to eat in town (5 minute walk) is Moana.

Definitely get on as many tours as you can in those three days. The main one heads north and east, to the crater and statues. Another goes north to the topknot quarry. the third goes a bit south of town to a large crater. The one with the half-finished statues is pretty amazing!

It's a pretty long flight, 5-6hrs, longer than one might expect.

There is a lot more info on the SA branch, and two or three main websites for EI.
