Family fun in Palua ???

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi..am considering going on holiday to Palua with my wife, 2 1/2 year old son, and 4 month old daughter.

A couple of years ago, all the information I had on Palua told me it was a s uper expensive place to visit so I didn't pursue it. Checking the palua visitors' website, looks like there are now more affordable accomodation options.

Before going any further, hope to get some more info from here :

1) As I have 2 kids, are there any other things to see and do aside from water activities in Palua ?

2) Where's a good place to pick us base -- which will still allow us to move around / see as much of Palau as we can ?

3) Any recommended websites / travel guides for the "budget friendly" traveler ? I havn't seen a Lonely Planet Palua ... or is there a book on the Pacific Islands ?

Thanks

eric

Great lead in Eric, no there is no Lonely Planet Palau or Moon Handbook for that matter. Most guides encompass the whole of Micronesia. I don't tink this a proper forum to dispute guidebooks, I will just mention that my Papa Mike's Palau Islands Handbook is the only guide strictly on the Republic of Palau. As you noted, there are a wide selection of budget accommodations within the region. There are ground based tours and island ferries that allow you to travel between islands at reasonable cost. I still would make your base in Koror and then venture from there. The most informative website remains the tourism board site.

Have a great trip.
