Fautaua Falls, Tahiti interior

hello there,

after long 7 years, in march, i am heading back to my dream destination French Polynesia. As i am this time travelling with a few friends of mine, i want our trips and activities to go seamless. One of them is a half-day trip to Fautaua Waterfalls in interior of the larger Tahiti Nui. Now, here is the dilemma I have:

What is the best way to get there? We will have had our car rented, but i am afraid we may be able to use it, because as far as I know, the road is unpaved and possibly rain-drenched. Or may we? Will we get all the way through? Where to park our car most conveniently? We also want to do a little of trekking, although, I surmise it could be doable on the way to the falls themselves.

I have also a little concern with defining the exact location of the falls. Are they right at the Lake Vaihiria? Where is the turnoff on the south coastal road?
