Fiji: Booking ahead + mealsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi all, I'm going to Fiji early Aug with my gf for about 10 days. We're trying to keep costs down (aren't we all?), altho would prefer private rooms where possible. Is it a good idea to book ahead that time of year, or is it easier (and maybe even cheaper?) just to find places when we arrive in a new place? Also, I've heard most budget accom comes with 3 meals a day. My gf is vegan, and I'm guessing they won't cater for her. Can you negotiate a rate without food? Thanks!
For the Yasawas & Mamanucas, I'd recommend booking ahead. You'll always be able to find something somewhere if you don't reserve, but if you want to stay at the best places and want a private room, then booking ahead is worthwhile. Won't make any difference to the price you pay. If you don't eat what the accommodation provides, then you don't eat at all. There are no stores, restaurants, or any other sort of alternatives for finding food. Your gf won't be the first vegan they've encountered, so most places will be able to make certain concessions and adjust their menu somewhat. | 1
Definitely book ahead if you want to have that piece of mind that you know where you are going to stay rather than end up somewhere you won't enjoy as much. Try Agoda. They always have good rooms at low prices. Most resorts will cater for any dietary needs as they are used to doing so. I also wouldn't count on any "meals included" being of a very good quality. I'd also try to find a nice resort on an island close by. You will have a much better time. | 2
