Fiji-clarifying female solo travel advice?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi, was planning a few days stopover in Fiji when I read that it's not a very pleasant/safe place for women travelling solo to travel- I read this in a guidebook and it really surprised me- does anyone have recent experience or views on this?

fiji is perfectly safe for lone females, to say otherwise is ill-informed and nonsense. As always, where there are other humans you will find some who aren't pleasant or worse, but usually very nice, same in your home country and same in fiji. Go, enjoy, you'll love it there!

Well, I don't know what you've read, but I also think it sounds like ill-informed and over-exaggerated nonsense. You have to take for granted the usual common sense about "safety" anywhere (e.g., certain districts in larger populated areas at night). Other than that, Fiji is a ridiculously friendly and welcoming place. I met several women (teenagers to mid-age adults) traveling solo throughout Fiji with no problems whatsoever - and never met any who did have a particular problem. Anyway, it's easy enough to meet people, visitors and locals alike, so you're never 'solo' for long.

thank you- all I needed to hear!

I wouldve thought that Fiji is MORE safe than most places for lone women. That said, a certain degree of caution is always wise.
