Fiji for 1 week on a budget

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Me and my boyfriend are backpacking RTW and spending a week in Fiji at the end of November. We've got the lonely planet guide but were shocked at how expensive all the accommodation seems to be ($90-$150 per night minimum!!).

Please could anyone who's been tell me if it is possible to spend less on accommodation (we're prepared to stay in the cheapest places possible). Also as we only have a week, does anyone have any recommendations for places to go/things to see? Was thinking about getting Bula pass and maybe doing the Yasawas and going to Beachcombers island and the Blue Lagoon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

In many places you can get accommodation for 10-15 USD/person/night.
But the Yasawas and Beachcomber will cost more than that - still should not be $90-$150 per night, unless that was for 2 persons, full board, maybe.

Some of the cheapest places are listed on this site.

The Pacific destinantion is not anywhere near the cheapest destination, but need not be expensive either - much depends on standards, facilities and how remote the place is.
