Fiji - I don't know anything

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi Guys

I'm thinking about going for a week to Fiji. But here comes the trouble, I don't know anything about the place apart from I think the beaches looks nice. And it'll be the beaches I will go there for.
We are 3-4 people travellin together, and it will be the first week of June. Flying to and from Nadi.

Where should we go from here? where's the nice beaches?
Any recommendations on resorts? - we are somehow low budget, but would like not to be in a dorm, but instead share a hut.
Is Fiji expensive? Food expensive?

Thanks in advance for any information,
Mark

Read through old posts here, that'll answer your questions and give you an idea of what Fiji offers.

Best beaches: Not on the main island of Viti Levu. The Yasawa Islands have some very nice beaches and good snorkelling.
Resorts: Lots of options in the Yasawas. Octopus & Blue Lagoon always get good reviews. For a 1-week trip, it's reasonable to try out 2-3 different places. Tripadvisor is a good resource for selecting resorts.
Prices: It's the cheapest nation in the South Pacific, but relative to somewhere like SE Asia you could call it expensive.

There's a lot of people on this forum with a lot of very good information about just about anywhere in the South Pacific.

But in order to tap into that wealth of knowledge you need to be more specific about what you need. Many of them have responded to a first post like yours with pages of information that took them a long time to write only to have the original poster (OP in forumspeak) never respond.

So stick around, do a little more research, and keep asking more specific questions and you will get a ton of very good information.

Cheers,
