Fiji in January

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi,

Im arriving in Fiji for a few weeks with my girlfriend in January and am looking for some advice:

Ive looked in some guide books and have found some general itinteraries and group activitied etc, but previous experience has tought me that these are generally the most expensive.

What are the best things to do/see around fiji?

Hows the best or the cheapest way to get around the islands and any websites for planning would be appreciated?

Thanks

best things to do/see??? depends on budget and time.
turisty, resorts, organized, expensive, pic the islands to the west. want to see and experince fiji get away from turist track, go east or north.
cheapest way to get around are of course local buses. service is frequent and reliable, bus around viti levu is about 30 F$.
depending on your travel to suva, spend a day or 2, then travel to levuka/ovalau, couple of days for culture, hiking, history, diving..., then to leleuvia isl or caqalai, for relaxing the best beaches and snorkelling, then back to the mainland, travel north to rakiraki and nanu nu ira, very scenic...

If you have a few weeks, then I'd try to take ferries east out to Ovalau, Savusavu, Taveuni, etc. Lot different than the touristy islands NW of Nadi.

www.levukafiji.com for central fiji
