| veryfruiti17:27 UTC16 Aug 2007 | Hi,
I am looking to spend around 2-3 weeks in Fiji between June/September time.
I will be on budget - backpacking style.
I have spent many months in Thailand and really want to avoid the Phuket/Samui type resorts. I much prefer to the rustic/low-key type islands such as Koh Phagnan. That coupled with surf and amazing beaches would be pretty spot on. I am not a diver, so marine life is not a priority.
Open suggestions .. Thanks.

After you visit the South Seas, you will wonder what all the hubbub was about Thailand as a beach destination. (Don't get me wrong, I loved Thailand but I thought the beaches were a total letdown)
I think you will find even Fiji to be even MORE laid back than Ko Phangan.

Any other suggestions? Yasawa islands??
Also, where is the surf? We will be heading there around June time, is this a good time.
Cheers.

You'll find some of what you want in one place, some in another but none in any budget location.
Kadavu has some decent surfing but you need money to boat out to the breaks and to pay the locals who own that reef.
