Fiji island/resort recommendations please?

Heading to Fiji with a friend on the 27th March for 2 weeks.

Because of flight times spending first and last night in Nadi so that leaves 12 nights to island hop.

So many islands and resorts and it's so hard to choose! Looking for recommendations, we're backpackers so on a budget but can up the budget for a couple of places, would like a variety of different islands/activities and places were there are other travellers.

Can anyone help?

I am not a backpacker but a couple of places we stayed in the islands had backpacker accommodation that you might want to check out. Mana Island - there are 3 backpacker places all near each other - the island has several beaches, great snorkeling and the hostels offer day trips - no problem with having like minded people around. Waya Island - much larger - has budget accommodation at one end but I am not familiar with it. The main resort, Octopus, also offers budget accommodations in a really nice building - has a great beach and snorkeling, a pool to hang out at, offers activites and cultural options and has a mixed clientele that are very easy to get to know and a great staff.
