| andrewboyle07:46 UTC17 Nov 2007 | Like any developing country, getting around takes time. So, with only ten days I would suggest keeping the travel to a minimum. That said, the bus, ferry and interisland plane service is generally reliable.
With ten days only, I would suggest to you that the Yasawa Group, located off the main island of Viti Levu would be ideal. There are a host of budget 'resorts', often local-run close to villages and easily accessable by the daily Yasawa Flyer which departs from Denarau Island, easily accessable from Nadi (where you fly into). I know the yasawas pretty well and would suggest that any of the resorts on Waya Island (the closest to Nadi) would be ideal. The island is very pretty with great beaches and diving and a village way of life pretty well untouched given its close proximity to the main island. Allowing a night in nadi at either end and a day for transfers to and from the island still gives you about a week in a beautiful part of the world. You can book the Yasawa Flyer on line and the LP Fiji guide has a pretty comprehensive list of these budget resorts to tempt you.
Another option could be to fly to Savusavu and do the five day trip on the luxury yacht tui tai. Activies include diving, sea-kayaking, mountain biking and visits to parts of the country that it is impossible to visit by any other means. Again they have a good website.
FYI I have been visiting fiji on a regular basis for the last twenty something years and continue to find it a destination to both surprise and delight.
Good luck with your jourey
Andrew
