Fiji - marijuana and mushroomsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hey, | ||
If it's there now, it is fairly deep undercover: thus, highly illegal. I make this rather informal assessment based on my level and style of travel experience in other countries. As often as not, even when I don't want anything I find it being offered. But this didn't happen in Fiji ... ergo the inference about it being illegal/undercover. I didn't hit the nightspots in Suva, though, and there wasn't much of a foreign tourist presence to get the sellers (if they exist) out in the open ... | 1
Most Indo Fijian cab drivers can hook you up with Marijuana easily enough, no guarantees as to quality though and penalties for possession are tough. | 2
#2 ... I'm familiar with your style of posting here on TT, so I take no personal offense. | 3
josenk, please keep in mind that dope growing/selling/smoking is causing HUGE social problems in Fiji. Village elders are tearing their hair out in frustration trying to deal with the young people seeing dollar signs because of travellers like yourself, who can't last a few weeks without being wasted. It is disrespectful to villagers to smoke within village confines, so don't do it. Take #2's advice and go somewhere quiet and private. If you get caught, you'll be "partying" in Suva prison, which is not somewhere I would like to stay. And, yes, there are a number of foreigners in there at the moment. My advice, save your smoking for home and see Fiji with respect.. | 4
