fiji on a tight budgetCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi all, Im interested in popping over to fiji as part of my RTW trip but will need to do it on the tightest budget possible-we're considering camping if it is an option? Does anyone have any ideas/ recommendations?
Camping is possible, but isn't much of an option. Many of the resorts will let you use your own tent on their grounds, although it will be only marginally cheaper than using a dorm (for privacy may not be a bad idea). Outside of the resort areas camping possibilities will be rare - you can't just throw up a tent anywhere. And outside the most popular resort areas simple guesthouses are a good option. Depending on time of year and which island you're visiting, an extra rain fly, strung out between trees with your tent set up under it, would be handy. When the rain comes down it can be heavy. I could recommend that you do what I did when I was planning my RTW trip: deciding that I wanted to visit Fiji whatever the cost, I invested in David Stanley's Fiji Guide, and worked out an itinerary and roughly how much I'd need to spend. I figured that, however much I'd have to pay in Fiji, I could easily balance my long-term budget once I got to SE Asia. | 1
