French Polynesia

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I'm considering visting French Polynesia.

However, I would like some previous information this destination.

In the French Polynesia, are the waters shallow, and is that the reason why there are villas over the sea?

And by the way, are there sharks in the waters of French Polynesia?

Lastly, how expensive is the cost of living? (Is it about the same or more expensive than in Paris?)

Yes...there are sharks.....but reef sharks are not so bad. The villas are over quiet water inside the reef.....so you get to watch the fish from your romantic villa...and so they can charge you so much for it. Cheaper to stay on the mainland in a Pension rather than the fancy resorts out on the motu or tiny islands on the reef. French bread and beer is govt subsidized so cheap........otherwise. life is...expensive.....I made and ate a lot of sandwiches to keep cost down.
